Genesis Power, www.genesispower.co.nz.  This site is one of the electricity generation companies in New Zealand and has data on the generation stations it owns and also has an educational section to the site.

Meridian Energy, www.meridianenergy.co.nzThis site is another of the electricity generation companies in New Zealand and has data on the generation stations it owns and also has an educational section to the site.

 

Trust Power, www.trustpower.co.nzThis site is another of the electricity generation companies in New Zealand and has data on the generation stations it owns on this site.

 

Mighty River Power, www.mightyriverpower.co.nzThis site is another of the electricity generating companies in New Zealand.  Has information on the generating stations it operates.

 

Contact Energy, www.mycontact.co.nz.   This site is another of the companies who generate electricity in New Zealand.  They also distribute and sell gas so have information on the site dealing with both forms of energy.

 

Southern Company, www.southerncompany.com/learningpowerThis site is one operated by an North American electricity supplier.  It has some very good resources on it but users need to remember that some things on the site may not be appropriate for New Zealand.  Has some excellent views and information as to how the different types of Power Stations produce electricity.

Mercury Energy, www.mecury.co.nz/education/educate.htmlThis site is one of the electricity supply companies in New Zealand.  The site contains educational data, safety information and information on energy efficiency.

New Zealand Government Agencies

Accident Compensation Corporation, www.acc.org.nzThis site has data on child safety around the home, farms and when playing sports.

EECA, www.eeca.govt.nz.  This site has information energy efficiency and conservation.

Energy Safety, www.energysafety.govt.nz.  This site is one operated by the Government Department responsible for electrical and gas safety.  It contains copies of the legislation it administers, media releases, newsletters, information sheets, Frequently Asked Questions and other data it releases.  The site would be useful to older children rather than most Primary school children.

  

New Zealand Fire Service, www.fire.org.nzThis is the New Zealand Fire Services Site and as some electrical and gas safety issues cross over into the Fire Services area there are also messages on the site dealing with gas and electrical safety issues.
  

Occupational Safety and Health Services, www.osh.govt.nzThis site has information on occupational safety and health issues.  It contains a section specifically for youth.

 

TELEVISION COMPANY AND PROGRAMME SITES

 

TV 3 Kids Club, www.tv3.co.nz/kidsThis site has various items aimed at children but has a very good item called “Homework Help” which gives links to various Internet Sites that can provide information to assist deal with study.

 

Suzy’s World, www.suzy.co.nzThis site is one built to support the TV Programme and has many useful resources for younger children.  One part of the site contains fact sheets on different issues the programme has covered including electricity.

 

A range of Video’s and DVD’s of the shows are also available.  Volume 19 - Bright Sparks, of the Suzy’s World DVD’s covers various programs that cover electrical items.

The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFi) has some good safety resources for old and young at http://www.esfi.org/cms/

 

The elecsafe alliance have a really good simple electrical safety website with good resources including the BUDDY video for Primary School aged children - http://www.elecsafe.info/.

 

Energex is one of Queenslands largest energy companies which has a good safety section on their website at http://www.energex.com.au/safety/index.html with information for everyone.  It has a great kids area on it with information aimed at different age groups.

 

Energy Australia has a great kids area called Energykids at http://www.energykids.energyaustralia.com.au/ that has information and resources for a wide age group on all sorts of Energy related issues.

 

NSW University Physics Site Einstein Light http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/einsteinlight/?GXHC_GX_jst=8258c07950ea6164 has various data on electricity.

 

Duke Energy from the US have a site called Electrical and Natural Gas Safety World at the following link - http://www.dukesafety.com/schools/kids/landing.html.  It is quite good but remember for NZ we are dealing with different plugs and a 230v 50Hz system not the 110v 60Hz system in the US.

 

The Canadian Electricity Generating Company Manitoba Hydro has a good site called the Electrical Universe at http://manitoba.electricuniverse.com/.  This site include Louie’s Space which has great resources for all ages of school children and teachers including images, games and videos.  Remember again that it is quite good but remember for NZ we are dealing with different plugs and a 230v 50Hz system not the 110v 60Hz system in the Canada.  They also have a site that deals with Energy Underground at http://manitoba.energyunderground.com/index.php?sec=7 which also has safety information for teachers and students.

 

Electrical Safety World http://www.vectorsafety.co.nz/ is a website run by the one of NZ’s largest energy distributors Vector dealing with various aspects of electrical safety from children to teachers to parents.

 

Festival Hydro from the US have a site dealing with electricity education at http://www.festivalhydro.com/learn.htm but once again again that it is quite good but remember for NZ we are dealing with different plugs and a 230v 50Hz system not the 110v 60Hz system in the US.

 

Another US company LG&E/KU have a great site dealing with learning about energy call Kids Connection at http://www.eon-us.com/kids/default.asp.  Great resources from all ages and great videos.

 

Kids Energy is a site about Energy in general but has some simple but good information http://www.kidsenergy.ca/

 

The Southern Company is a large US Company but it has a great site called Learning Power at http://www.southerncompany.com/learningpower/.  Fantastic resources covering many aspects of electricity from safety to how it is made.  But once again again that it is quite good but remember for NZ we are dealing with different plugs and a 230v 50Hz system not the 110v 60Hz system in the US.

 

The Queensland Government and Government of Western Australia have a great electrical safety resource at http://www.safetyline.wa.gov.au/youth/Energy/Children/index.htm and unlike the US and Canadian Sites it safety is based on the same system we have here in New Zealand.  Note in Australia they call “RCD’s” “Safety Switches”.  Safety Switches gives people a false sense of security as you still require to get an electric shock for an RCD to operate.

 

Western Power from Western Australia has a site called World of Energy http://www.worldofenergy.com.au/index.html that has some different resources about Energy that are more for older students or teachers.

 

How Stuff Work, www.howstuffworks.comThis American site has an amazing amount of information on how stuff works. It would be a good site for children doing research for school projects but users need to remember that some things on the site may not be appropriate for New Zealand.
