2010 EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERE SEMINAR

In July 2010 Explosive Atmosphere Seminars are to be held throughout New Zealand to update this industry of changes that are occurring in the Electricity Regulations and Standards affecting us.   These are a good refresher for all people including Designers, Engineers, Consultants, Inspectors, and Electricians.

The Seminars will cover:

  • The Electricity Safety Regulations 2010 and their impact on the Explosive Atmosphere industry;
  • Introduction of AS/NZS 60079.10.1 which deals with Petrochemical Area Classification and combines the revised AS/NZS 60079.10 and current AS/NZS 2430.3;
  • Introduction of AS/NZS 60079.14 dealing with the selection and installation of Explosive Atmosphere equipment which replaces part of AS/NZS 2381.1; Introduction of AS/NZS 60079.17 dealing with the maintenance and inspection of Explosive Atmosphere equipment which replaces part of AS/NZS 2381.1; The application of Equipment Level Protection or EPL’s;
  • The sessions will include Working Groups presented with practical examples handed out;
  • Small exhibits will be put on by Industry Suppliers such as Electropar, Cuthbert Stewart and others so that your time there will be enhanced.

He is a member of:

  • Various Joint AS/NZS Explosive Atmosphere committees since 1992 including EL/14 which is the main committee for Explosive Atmospheres, EL/14/7 which deals with the selection, installation, maintenance and inspection of equipment in Explosive Atmosphere, as well as many other Explosive Atmosphere committees. 

  • the IEC TC 31 committee and various subcommittees representing New Zealand since 1992.  This included SC/31H which deals with Dust hazards, IEC SC/31J which deals with the design, selection, erection, maintenance, inspection and Repair of explosive equipment; the IEC Ex System, Explosive Atmosphere Certification System Management committee, as a New Zealand Representative since 1999.

  • Colin has also been awarded the Meritorious Service Award from Standards New Zealand for his work in Explosive Atmosphere Standards development.

  • Colin is a Licensed Electrical Inspector in New Zealand and Victoria; a member of ECANZ, ESO and IMC. 

  • his vast wealth of knowledge in Explosive Atmosphere s gained from his work as the Explosive Atmosphere expert for the Electricity Regulator in New Zealand from 1992 where he worked with a wide range of the explosive atmosphere industry in New Zealand and overseas and since 2008 in his own business he has continued that work.
